Light Headed

Post  Carpenter on Sun Mar 17, 2013 2:53 pm

Have you ever experienced a light headed feeling from playing in the upper register? If so, how do you prevent it from happening?

I’m playing some demanding lead lately and rehearsals are fine, but performances have certain phrases that leave me light headed.

Thanks for your help.

Light Headed Cure

Post  Dukeoftrumpet on Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:52 pm

This happens to me when I suddenly play high notes using a fast stream of air. For me, the best way to cope with this is to brace myself before I have to play high. If I have to hit a high note, I hit it after gathering up air and accenting with a light tounge, increasing volume if needed. Also, I have a light-headed issue while in marching band, but I haven't stumbled across a cure quite yet.
